PBWORKS

I can describe a wiki as an interactive or collaborative website for users to edit to host information. There are many different types of wiki's out there. One of the most popular wiki's is Wikipedia. Wikis can be used for research, blogging and other collaborative tasks such as classroom connection activities. Sites such as PBWORKS offer lots of resource tools or products. The education feature on this particular site allows students to work online in a safe environment. PBWORKS offers classroom account without required email. With this site teachers can add outside members to the site. For example members of the community can add information prior to or after a presentation. Teachers can add notifications to keep everyone up to date on events, tasks etc. I would use this site in my classroom to teach beyond the classroom. I see myself inviting community members into the classroom to teach about their profession, community members can post examples of resumes, resources, link to their website etc. for students to explore.  The theory that I would pair with wiki's is the instructional approach. Learners focus on learning through experience and reflection of doing, but not necessarily their own work.
